Will God change us and make us "Good" people?

A friend said to me, "Personally I believe human beings had better think of taking care of their own problems instead of waiting for some Father figure to come along and do it for us."  I agree. What? You are a Mormon, how can you say that?  It's easy-- it is true. If you are waiting for God, like some "super Santa" to come and solve all your problems for you and make everyone be good and kind-- you are doing to have a long wait!

Our Heavenly Father loves us and wants us to be happy. He will guide us, answer prayers, and even change our hearts if we ask Him, but what He never does is force us. He helps us to become better people, to overcome our weaknesses, a little at a time. He does not want merely correctly performing puppets.  This is why our Savior came the first time. He lived on the earth and taught us how to live to be happy.

Will there be a time of peace on the earth? Yes, when the Savior comes in glory, there will be peace, but not because He has waved some magic wand and made us all loving and kind. The evil, mean, and cruel people will have been destroyed before the second coming of the Savior, so only the kinder people will be left to live on the earth. These people are the ones who have received light and truth into their lives no matter what their formal faith. These are they who have learned to love. These are the people who will know Christ, because they will be like Him.
